Matthew 11:3 When John baptized Jesus, he had a true “God experience” for lack of a better term. He saw the dove; he heard the Voice. Yet, in prison, he had his moment of doubt. “Are you really the Messiah, or have I been completely mistaken?” Yet, a few verses later Jesus pays John quite a compliment….then goes on to say that we can be as great as him! I dunno about you, but I hold the JTB in pretty high regard. PETA might have had a field day with the whole eating honey and bugs and fur thing, but I think he was great. A true survivalist and someone prone to spending long times in spiritual solitude, wasn‘t afraid to speak his mind….mad props.

12:14 Another verse I need explained. Could you guys maybe video your get-togethers???

12:25 I love that God’s wisdom transcends intellectualism. A few of us in class are “brains” but I for one make up for that by lacking in common sense. Intellect does not = smart.

28:30 I love that I have Someone I can call on anytime, day or night, Who is never too busy, is completely straight up with me, doesn’t get annoyed with me, tells me the truth, corrects me gently, has my best interests at heart, loves to bless me, doesn’t care what I look like or what I weigh, laughs at my jokes (I bet), and enjoys my company as if I’m the only person in the world. Who wouldn’t be in love with Someone like that???

Genesis 39:11 I’m sure many of you know this, but Billy Graham had a rule that he was never alone with another woman besides his wife. The man has remained totally above reproach, and ya gotta respect that. I adopted that rule (I call it “Billy Grahamin’ it). It actually served as a great witness. A few of us from class were going to lunch, and someone asked me if I wanted to ride with him. Those of you who have seen my car know that was a generous offer. It was awkward as anything, but I was like, “Dude, I know you don’t mean anything weird by it, but I have this rule….” and I explained. The dude was very apologetic. I was very apologetic. Anyway, he ended up coming to me the next day and telling me he told his wife and daughter about it, and they got saved on the spot and…..well, not really, but he explained the rule to his 14 yr old daughter and he and his wife decided she should abide by it. Bet the kid loves me. Joseph probably didn’t have much of a choice about being alone with Potiphar’s wife, but what was cool was when she brazenly made her intentions known, he fled. Didn’t try to reason with her, didn’t toy with the idea, didn’t allow himself time to get to like the idea….he ran. Poor guy. V. 20 tells us Joseph got thrown in prison, which is interesting, because Poti could have had him killed on the spot for messing with his wife. I wonder if there was a part of him that didn’t believe the Mrs. I have an image in my mind of Mrs. Potiphar; she’s the kind that gives chicks like myself an insecurity complex. The trophy wife who gets her way every time. I wonder if they were happy…..anyway…..

40:5 Dream….dream dream dream….(I love that song)

40:20 This verse is one of the reasons JW’s don’t celebrate birthdays. Between this one and the one where JTB was beheaded, they’re too afraid. Now, I’ve had some candle mishaps, but in all of my family’s birthdays, including extended, no one has ever had their head cut off.

40:23 Coming off the lightness here (I’m on what’s called a runner’s high) Joseph, even after helping the baker and butler, was left in prison, alone, forgotten. No family, just God. I believe sometimes when we’re in a position like this, this is when we make a big decision: are we going to assume God has abandoned us, hates us, has created us simply for the act of suffering, and become bitter and hateful toward Him, or are we stubbornly going to hang on like Jacob with the Angel, and not let go of the fact that He loves us, He is always with us, and He is never going to walk out on us or forget us? He is all we really have for certain. Nothing’s certain except death and taxes? Nah…nothing’s certain except my Jesus loves me, died for me, is my best Friend, and is coming back for me…..and you. Have a great service tonight….
