Exodus 4:10 I can relate to what Moses says here. I am prone to get tongue tied and stick my foot in my mouth, speak without thinking, have my words fail me, etc. I tell my daughter she's gonna end up with arthritis from all the text messaging she does, but in a way, I almost wish I could write stuff down instead of speaking it...
4:14 God got angry at Moses, yet He still helped him; He didn't just cast Moses aside and say, "Fine! I'll use someone else!"
4:20 I don't know why this verse jumped out at me, but can you imagine travelling a long way (OK, even a short way) on a donkey? We complain about a long road trip in a car, and one day Moses comes in and says, "Wife, we're outa here. We're going to Egypt. Hop on." I'm sure she was thrilled. I like to think I would have been willing and not played sick to get out of it.
4:24 ????? Wow, that was some arguement....I'm confused here. Did God want to kill Moses b/c his son wasn't circumcised??? I need this part explained...
I used to wonder why God let Pharoah treat His kids the way he did. Can you imagine your boss requiring you to do your job yet not providing any supplies??? But maybe it had to be that hard to get them to leave. Maybe Israel had to be desperate for a deliverer, or they would have said, "Well, yeah, it's slavery....but it's home. I'm comfortable here, and to venture into the unknown with this guy we don't know....it's risky. I think I'll just stay here." I know I have done that often in life...God says go, or leave a certain habit, etc, and I say, "OK, I'm enslaved a bit...but it's not so bad. Yes, God wants to set me free, but what's on the other side? What will I do for fun? What about my friends? I've been here for so long, I can't remember a time when I knew anything else..." But it's always better when I let Him release me, even from things I didn't know were a millstone around my neck. He always has something better, even if it's different from what you expected, if we obey.
I used to think, what a shame, things used to be so good in Egypt, everyone got along, and now this. Why did this happen? The hard fact is sometimes God uses adversity to accomplish what He wants in our lives. He had a plan, and to leave His kids in the lap of luxury wasn't going to get them to possess the land He had for them. They would have wound up sporting eyeliner and drawing hieroglyphics. Not what God wanted for them.
6:23 God made His Name known. What an honor. There is a song by a group called Need to Breathe about YHWH...anyone know it? I heard it on a plane and loved it but don't know the name...I'll hafta do some digging...
Notice how these guys were living to 120-130. A dude 50 years old was not even at midlife yet. I have been greatly interested as of late in why this is no longer so; why we're not living as long, why we're sick....not because I'm afraid to die, but more of a what are we doing wrong type research. I won't go into it here, but email me if you want to discuss it; very interesting stuff.
Matthew 14:29-30 I know we've all heard numerous talks on this portion of Scripture, and I'm probably not saying anything we don't know, but Peter's problem was taking his eyes of Jesus. As long as he looked at Him, all was well. But when he looked at the sea, he knew he was up a....that makes no sense. Notice that Jesus doesn't let him drown, or get mad, He was simply disappointed and sad. Why did you doubt, Peter? What reason had the Lord given him to? I think on this sometimes when I feel my faith waver in a particular area. When has Christ ever given me a reason to doubt? He has always come through for me in the end, and always will.
When reading a Scripture passage, I always like to make note of pracrical instruction. What am I commanded to do??? IN this case, Jesus gives only one word: Come. That's where it all starts. Lost? Wondering what to do? Where to turn? How to solve this problem or that? Come. He has the answers. :-)
So, how cool is this? Tonight I'm driving, and the very song I mentioned this morning came on. It's called "Signature of the Divine (Yahweh)" and it is indeed by Need to Breathe. Check it out. :-)
